When the play ended, we found Nickolas Grace outside the hall signing autographs, so we all rushed to join the long line up! I don’t think any of us were disappointed! Nick made a special effort with everyone!

He would ask people where they were from, and if they spoke another language he would try to say something in that language! Magdalena from Poland was in line ahead of me and I heard Nick say “thank you” in Polish (he translated) before he signed her programme.

I squashed the Sheriff, but I didn't squish the deputy!
(Sitting on Nickolas Grace's lap!)

In my case, he said that he hadn’t visited Toronto but had heard about the theatres. Then he tried to come up with the names of the two Toronto brothers who had bought the Old Vic, and I supplied him with the name known to most Torontonians: Mirvisch. After that Nick signed my programme, writing: “For Claire, from the Sheriff and Nickolas Grace. 2000 and love to Toronto too!” Then I went and sat on his knee while Alys took a picture. In fact, I’m discovering that at least a few people took pictures! *g* I’m not sure how the poor man’s knee held out!

The Sheriff surrounded by wolfsheads?!!
