Kathye pointed to the two male ducks in a rather compromising position. Could it be that we had happened upon the first pair of homosexual ducks?! We discussed this question as we continued to walk along the rampart, but it was not to be. Kirsty explained that many male animals engaged in this kind of activity to display dominance. Oh, well...
Wells Cathedral as seen from Bishop's Palace
We stepped into the First Floor Hall next, which had rooms filled with paintings and furniture from centuries ago, then headed outside again. We walked past the Gatehouse and saw a swan with two adorable babies. I didn’t know this at first, but these were the famous mute swans. Because they’re mute, they’ve been trained to ring a bell under the Gatehouse window when they’re hungry.
We knew we had to return to the bus soon, but we managed to spare enough time to visit a delightful shop where Fiona was able to indulge in her Greenman fetish... *g* We had spotted some Green Men at Wells Cathedral so it seemed only appropriate. I think it was also a sign that I would soon be meeting Mark Ryan in Toronto! But that’s another story...
The Great Hall
We glanced at our watches as we stepped outside the shop and realized that we only had a few minutes to make it back to the bus. I have no sense of direction but, fortunately, everyone else seemed to know where they were going. As we hurried back to the car park, we each indicated a different landmark we had chosen to mark the route. I had picked a book store, but some of the other choices were pretty amusing!
We were among the last people to climb onto the bus, but this was hardly unusual for me when it came to bus trips or tours. Besides, we were back before 4:15...Is it our fault that Kirsty told everyone else to return at 4:00? *g*
First Floor Hall
When everyone else had returned to the bus again (including us), we headed back to the hotel. I ended up sitting beside Saskia, a member of the Belgium party. She confessed to me that she had never actually seen RoS before but had joined her friends at the con anyway. When she told me that one of her friends was going to lend her his tapes, I said that she would probably love the series. After all, she had already been to a con!
