Eventually we had to leave the woods and were piling back on the bus. This time we were heading to Wells Cathedral, which was used for at least four RoS scenes. I ended up sitting beside Kirsty this time and, as Alys was across the aisle, we discussed such topics as the joys and frustrations of running websites and some of the funny messages we had received from people. It must have sounded pretty strange to the people sitting behind us!
When we arrived at the Wells car pack (a place I had actually been to four years before), we discovered what had happened to the other bus. It had ended up on the other side of Leigh Woods where they had quite the adventure! Because Dan Rendell was wearing his Loxley apparel, someone from the forestry commission thought that the people from Bus #1 were a film crew!
Fortunately, Dan’s Loxley costume came in handy in one situation. When the group had to cross a busy street, he directed traffic using his sword! In fact, he ended up in a Bristol newspaper! *g*
The famous stairs to Marion's chamber (e.g. Stairs to the Chapter House)
Hey, where did you come from?!!
I found myself with most of the same crowd I had been with in Leigh Woods, but as we walked towards Wells Cathedral we also met up with Dar and Eric. I think we were all tempted to visit the shops, but we kept to our course and soon found ourselves gazing up at this towering marvel of Medieval architecture! I again felt as if I had stepped back in time as I took in the Cathedral.
I knew that I already had at least two pictures of the cathedral, but I still walked backwards until I could fit most of it into the camera’s frame. Then I returned to the others, and we continued to praise the architecture until someone decided that it might be a good idea to go inside.
Although I had visited Wells before, I had never actually been inside the cathedral! On my tour, we had only been given about an hour in Wells and in that time we also had to find some lunch! Four years later, I was allowed much more time, though I was still interested in eating lunch...but we had more important things to do! For one thing, we had to purchase a licence in order to take pictures! I think we were supposed to have one licence for each person, but we cheated. Kirsty bought one for £1 and we all used it! *g*
As soon as we had this licence, we looked for the famous stairs that lead to Marion’s chamber in “Robin Hood and the Sorcerer” (the stairs to cloister). We received some pretty strange looks from other visitors as we gathered at the foot of the stairs and snapped pictures. Once we were satisfied, we climbed the stairs, but instead of entering Lady Marion’s chamber we walked into a large circular room with marble floors and coats of arms. It certainly wasn’t how I pictured it!
