Alison Beck had warned me that it would be very muddy and seemed very concerned when I informed her that I had brought sneakers instead of "wellies". It was quite muddy, but we were blessed with mostly sunshine and no rain. The only harrowing moment involved a rather steep, muddy hill. Anita, Anne-Marie and I managed to get down it by clinging on to each other. We almost lost Kathye, who nearly slid at the bottom before regaining her footing again.
My lord, I think we're going in circles... (From left to right: Anne-Marie (or at least part of her), Caroline, Kirsty and Fiona)
To celebrate surviving the hill, Anita and I took more pictures, then got ourselves and Anne-Marie separated from the rest of the group. I was sorely tempted to start screaming: “The forest...the-the trees...THE TREES! THE TREES!” Instead I quickened my pace, and we sort of half ran until we caught up with the group again. Then, of course, we pretended that we hadn’t been scared and that we had meant to fall behind.
Wolfsheads?!! No, it's Alys, Fiona, Kirsty, Kathye and Anita in front of the...the TREE!
We managed to find the other members of our group - Kirsty, Alys, Kathye, Fiona, Caroline and Louise - and speculated some more about what scenes might have been shot in Leigh Woods. We also began to toss quotes back and forth. I was at a loss until we turned around and headed back in the direction we had come. For some reason I was reminded of that scene in “The Betrayal” where the one guard says to Gisburne: “My lord, I think we’re going in circles.” Fortunately, the people leading us didn’t hear that comment (or I might not have been allowed back on the bus!), but perhaps the TREES did, for as I was climbing back up the muddy hill of peril I almost slipped back down again!
After we had walked a bit farther, we found a tall moss-covered tree and decided that it was a perfect spot to take pictures. As four or five flashes went off, we probably risked losing the rest of the group again... *g*
